Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy
McKenzie Method® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT) is an assessment and treatment protocol used by chiropractors and physical therapist all over the world. Understanding factors such as activities, movements, positions, or posters we can identify both relieving and aggravating factors. MDT through assessment and treatment allows us to use these factors to help the resolution of your pain.
What it looks like in the clinic
- First your clinician will take a detailed history and assessment to better understand your specific complaint. Asking about what specifically makes things worse and what may not change anything or what might improve the pain. In your assessment we will carefully have you perform movements and see how either your range of motion or symptoms behave.
- Following the assessment your clinician will use this information to provide a strategy for you to continue the pain relieving or range of motion increasing movement at home.
- This process allows you to become part of the treatment journey by taking control of your own symptoms. Most of this treatment will be hands off by the clinician unless necessitated in the assessment process.
What is the McKenzie Method of MDT?
The McKenzie Method of MDT is a reliable assessment process intended for all musculoskeletal problems, including pain in the back, neck and extremities (i.e., shoulder, knee, ankle etc.), as well as issues associated with sciatica, sacroiliac joint pain, arthritis, degenerative disc disease, muscle spasms and intermittent numbness in hands or feet. If you are suffering from any such issues, then a MDT assessment may be right for you!
